Nature Vigil
Indigenous people have known since time immemorial that spending intentional solitude and silence in nature was a powerful portal to greater connection with Spirit.
Nature vigil is this, solo immersion into the land, with the intention simply of listening and learning to the wisdom of Mother Earth. It is a ceremony of presence and connection, where you are called to quieten your mind and open your heart, allowing the natural world to speak to you in its own language.
Umami has been specifically designed for this purpose, and there are wooden platforms scattered throughout the land to provide a secluded, safe, elevated space to vigil from.
Through facing our fears, discomfort or other internal processes that arise, we initiate the resilience, expansion and courage required to be embodied feminine leaders in the new world.

Your Guide
Dr. Leila Sadien is an integrative medical doctor, mystic and earth-based shamanic practitioner whose work bridges human healing with the exploration of Consciousness. For over two decades, she has worked with the human body as a living field of intelligence, while guiding those ready for healing, initiation and intimate reconnection with self and place.
Her retreat work is informed by extensive experience in shamanic process, somatic awareness, and ritual held in nature. She is known for creating spaces that are precise, grounded, wild, celebratory and deeply respectful of both the land and the individuals she works with.

Our home for this work
Umami Mountain Retreat is a 26-hectare paradise that flows naturally onto the untouched Franschhoek Nature Reserve. The setting is magnificent and unspoiled. As you enter Umami you immediately drop into the timeless tranquility of ‘The place where the elephants use to calf’.
The facilities at Umami are designed to seamlessly blend into the mountain landscape. Allowing Mother Nature to dominate and gently pull you to Her calm rhythm. This is one of the magical spaces near Cape Town that still feels inherently wild.
In keeping with the theme of rewilding we will sleep in secluded pods, featuring thick stone walls, high pitched thatched roofs and double glazing. Naturally cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The pods are understated and tasteful, but everything is top quality from the Egyptian cotton bedding to simple furniture.
